I built an 6′ by 8′ greenhouse this last week and I thought I would share my experience and the results. The build of the greenhouse is pretty good quality, it’s all light weight material and of course everything comes from China these days (no way around that).
I decided to build out a frame/foundation so that it will not blow away, I built another one out of lumber a few years ago in Colorado and on a windy day it lifted off and tumbled a few times before landing and busting into pieces. So I sunk a 4 by 4 post on each corner 2 feet into the ground and built a 4 by 4 perimeter to bolt the aluminum frame to.
I used Shaper3D to put together a simple design to work from. Here are a couple screen shots of the design.
Next I dug four holes for the corner posts and leveled out the ground. I buried the posts two feet in the ground then bolted four by fours around the perimeter.
After that I dropped the greenhouse frame over the posts and built out the benches with two by fours and one by firing strips on the tops of the benches. Snapping the clips that hold the siding in place take a little toll on your finger so I recommend putting half in place initially then finish it up the next day. Watch the video to get a better idea of how the project went.
